Feel happier at work in the next 10 minutes

Like lots of people, you may not be feeling your best at the moment. You may be feeling a little miserable and you think that your life could be a bit better. Some days nothing seems to cheer you up. Here’s the good news, once you’ve put into place some (or if you dare) all of the suggestions we have here, you will start to feel a lot happier in the next 10 minutes.

Implement these simple steps and start feeling happier NOW!

1. Move it!

Did you know that your body has its own happy drug? Endorphins found in the brain, are your body's natural pain reliever and mood enhancer. Get off your chair and start to move. Exercise triggers your internal happy drug. Just ask any runner. When driving to work park the car further away and take the stairs. The bonus is that you will not only feel good but look good too.

2. Eat yourself happy

When you feel stress, just eating a piece of chocolate will give you a good feeling. I’m an advocate of eating good wholesome food, that will give your body a boast and make you feel better. A banana can help produce the happy chemical in your brain and give you a steady supply of energy. Eating spicy food like chilli peppers can release endorphins to make you feel better too.

3. Refresh yourself

Did you know that when our body lacks the necessary water it needs you will experience dizziness, headaches, fatigue and you will find it difficult to The health authorities commonly recommend that the body needs eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 litres, or half a gallon per day. This is called the 8×8 rule and is very easy to remember. So stay hydrated and remain in a happy place.

4. Get some rays

Being in the fresh air and being out in natural sunlight will trigger endorphins. Even the thought of a sunny day can boost your mood. People who recover from bad times often say how they appreciate the things around them. So take the time out now while you can to appreciate even the small things; the wind, the warmth, the cold, the rain and the trees. You’ll feel so much better.

5. Feel the music

Music can cheer your spirit. What’s your favourite sound? Have your favourite sounds available ‘on demand’. If you can’t play your music while you work, you can still play it in your head. Why not even sing them? Perhaps while you’re in your car or travelling, listen to your favourites and then have your tunes in your head for the day. Or when you’re on that well-deserved break, listen to something that makes you cheer up or ‘sing your favourite song out loud, if you dare.

So here it is your recipe for a happy work day that you can adapt to suit you;

  1. Play or sing your favourite music /song

  2. Whilst walking briskly

  3. Get some fresh air and sunshine

  4. Eat a banana, spicy food and some chocolate and

  5. Drink lots of water to hydrate yourself
